YOGA EXPERIENCE AND BACKGROUND
Kristin has studied kinesthetic movement since early childhood. She spent her early childhood years studying classical and modern ballet, and in high school was enrolled in the University of Akron’s dance program, and understudied with the Ohio Ballet Company. In her early adulthood, she explored Chinese martial arts and studied Chien Hong Hung Gar Kung Fu for six years. After a severe knee injury, she went to the yoga mat for therapy. Kristin has been a student of yoga since 1999, and a teacher since 2007. She discovered that yoga is an amazing form of fitness, but found that there is so much more! Her yoga studies and experiences as a student and teacher help her be a better therapist in her esthetics work, also they help her in daily life. Her desire is to possibly contribute something to another person that will send them further along the path to self discovery and wholeness. Her teaching style reflects roots of her own studies. She instructs with great attention to detail and alignment and expects hard work and participation. Although she wants her students to work hard, she has a light hearted approach with a touch of comic relief!
Kristin completed her first level of yoga teacher training back in 2006. She participated in a Yoga Alliance approved 200 hour residential program at Barsana Dham Ashram (through Living Yoga Program) in Austin. She fell so in love with her studies, that she decided to continue her teacher training. She came across Yogananda Michael Carroll, and was drawn to his approach of a heavier focus on yoga philosophy and the internal practices of yoga. She finished her 500 hour training in Pranakriya yoga September of 2010. Kristin is also certified as a pre and post-natal instructor.
Kristin has also been certified as a Power Pilates Instructor, and has trained in the classical form of mat pilates originally created by Joseph Pilates. Kristin believes that yoga and pilates compliment each other well. She often incorporates core strengthening techniques into yoga classes, and on the flip side, incorporates yoga into mat Pilates classes. Kristin became certified in Barre in 2013, and also leads Barre classes in the Atlanta community. Kristin has several years’ experience offering group classes, and has taught beginner, intermediate and advanced level classes to a wide variety of audiences in studio, corporate, and fitness club environments. She enjoys working with clients in private sessions as well to help fine tune alignment and deepen her students’ practice.
